Piero Schiavo Campo<\/strong><\/a><\/span> has a degree in physics. After five years in scientific research, he moved on to software. Currently he teaches Theory and Techniques of New Media (the Internet and its media-related services) at Universit\u00e0 degli Studi, Milano Bicocca. On this topic he has recently published the essay “I media nella tela del ragno” (“The Media in the Spider\u2019s Web”). As an SF writer, he has authored various novels and short stories, and has won the prestigious Urania Award twice (2013, 2017) and the Robot Award (2017).<\/p>\n

Born in London to British parents, and raised bilingual in Italy, Sarah Jane Webb<\/strong> grew up in a house full of books. From her family, she inherited a passion for reading and writing. After studying modern languages, she worked for years in multinational companies in London and Milan. After the birth of her two children, she obtained a TEFL certificate for teaching English and started teaching and translating commercial literature. Over time, translation became her full-time occupation and she specializes in creative and literary work.<\/p>\n

I use writing software.<\/p>\n

Everyone uses writing software.<\/p>\n

I was born in Llanelwy.<\/p>\n

My father was a shepherd.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t speak English.<\/p>\n

No-one in my family speaks English.<\/p>\n

I went to Llanelwy elementary school.<\/p>\n

My teacher said I was very bright.<\/p>\n

My teacher only spoke Welsh.<\/p>\n

My father died when I was in year two at Llanelwy elementary.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t remember my father very well.<\/p>\n

I remember he drank a lot of wine.<\/p>\n

I remember he beat up my mother.<\/p>\n

I had to leave school when my father died.<\/p>\n

My mother didn\u2019t have any money.<\/p>\n

We moved to the city.<\/p>\n

My mother worked as a house cleaner.<\/p>\n

I washed shop windows.<\/p>\n

I was seventeen.<\/p>\n

I was hired by a computer company.<\/p>\n

I cleaned the fitted carpet and the toilets.<\/p>\n

I worked at night.<\/p>\n

There were lots of corridors.<\/p>\n

There were white lights.<\/p>\n

There was silence.<\/p>\n

There was the humming of machines.<\/p>\n

John always worked late.<\/p>\n

He said he didn\u2019t understand me when I spoke.<\/p>\n

He was very intelligent.<\/p>\n

He wrote programs for artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n

I wanted to understand what he did.<\/p>\n

John explained.<\/p>\n

He said I learned quickly.<\/p>\n

He said it was a pity.<\/p>\n

He gave me a book.<\/p>\n

I tried to read it.<\/p>\n

I couldn\u2019t remember how to read.<\/p>\n

John explained what I didn\u2019t understand.<\/p>\n

I told him I wanted to write a program.<\/p>\n

John laughed.<\/p>\n

He laughed at first.<\/p>\n

I explained what I wanted to do.<\/p>\n

John stopped laughing.<\/p>\n

I explained that it\u2019s bad when you can\u2019t talk.<\/p>\n

He saw me take the program.<\/p>\n

He seemed very angry.<\/p>\n

I ran away.<\/p>\n

My mother wanted to beat me up.<\/p>\n

She said I lost my job.<\/p>\n

She said I was stupid.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not stupid.<\/p>\n

I went away.<\/p>\n

I slept at the station.<\/p>\n

The station was very cold.<\/p>\n

Albert was smart.<\/p>\n

He talked a lot.<\/p>\n

He said it wasn\u2019t fair.<\/p>\n

He said the rich had everything.<\/p>\n

I was very hungry.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t want to do it, but I was hungry.<\/p>\n

The owner of the shop shouted.<\/p>\n

Albert got scared.<\/p>\n

He hit the owner of the shop.<\/p>\n

I know he didn\u2019t mean to hit him.<\/p>\n

The owner of the shop wouldn\u2019t shut up.<\/p>\n

Albert beat him.<\/p>\n

The owner of the shop cried out.<\/p>\n

He cried out at every blow.<\/p>\n

In the end he shut up.<\/p>\n

Then another man came in.<\/p>\n

He shouted too.<\/p>\n

We ran away.<\/p>\n

At the station our friends didn\u2019t want us there.<\/p>\n

Albert cried.<\/p>\n

The police found us.<\/p>\n

The police beat us up.<\/p>\n

Albert didn\u2019t want to go.<\/p>\n

He shouted that he didn\u2019t mean to hurt that man.<\/p>\n

We were pushed into the car.<\/p>\n

We were taken to prison.<\/p>\n

My mother knows nothing about me.<\/p>\n

The director is very kind.<\/p>\n

He doesn\u2019t understand when I speak.<\/p>\n

I asked for a computer.<\/p>\n

The director said I can\u2019t use the computer.<\/p>\n

I knew there was a computer.<\/p>\n

I ran away.<\/p>\n

I have found the computer.<\/p>\n

I have just found the computer.<\/p>\n

The policemen are coming.<\/p>\n

The policemen will beat me up again.<\/p>\n
